SSC CGL Tier 1 mock test and practice, free
SSC CGL is an exam for graduates, held in tiers. Tier 1 is a 100 question, 60 minute objective paper, with half a mark lost for every wrong answer, and merit is decided by Tier 2. It is the Staff Selection Commission's Combined Graduate Level exam.
Ten questions at a time, in the real Tier 1 pattern. Then the full paper on the clock.

|---|---|---|---|
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 25 | 50 | 15 |
| English Comprehension | 25 | 50 | 15 |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 25 | 50 | 15 |
| General Awareness | 25 | 50 | 15 |
| Tier 1 | 100 | 200 | 60 |
Tier 1 qualifying (no sectional cutoff); merit decided by Tier 2. From 2026 each section has its own 15 minute timer; PTP's mock papers still run one 60 minute clock.
The cutoff, in plain words
UR 150 to 160 of 200
How it screens: Qualifying, to reach Tier 2
Tier 1 marks are not counted in the final merit. Tier 2 decides everything. Cutoffs move with every year's paper and vacancies, and they differ by category and post. Read these as the level to beat, not a promise.

SSC CGL questions people ask
Is SSC CGL Tier 1 hard?
The clock and the marking make it hard: 36 seconds a question, and half a mark lost on every wrong one. Practise under time from the first day and the paper stops being a surprise.
Can I prepare without coaching?
For Tier 1, yes, if you practise the way the paper scores: questions every day under time, every mistake understood, full papers on the clock.
How much does negative marking hurt?
A right answer earns 2 marks and a wrong one costs half a mark, so four wrong answers erase one right one. Rule options out before you guess.
Are these actual SSC CGL questions?
No. Every question is an original written to the SSC CGL pattern and level, and Play To Prepare is not connected to the Staff Selection Commission.
What is the biggest mistake in SSC CGL preparation?
Reading General Awareness notes for weeks without ever testing recall. GA is 25 of the 100 questions and the paper allows 36 seconds each; recall under a clock is the skill, and reading does not build it. The second classic: perfecting Tier 1 when merit is decided entirely by Tier 2.
